DC Metering

New: DC Metering & DC Power Monitoring

DC metering measures energy in direct-current systems — solar PV, energy storage, EV charging, telecom and DC data-center architectures — where conventional AC meters do not apply. SATEC provides a dedicated platform for accurate DC monitoring and DC revenue billing, based on the PRO series adapted with UHACS for direct-current applications.

DC power systems

Many modern power systems incorporate DC technology. Direct current is generated by renewable energy systems, used in energy storage, and applied in areas such as power transmission and aluminum smelting.

Because many electronic devices operate internally on DC power, some systems—including certain data center architectures—use DC distribution to reduce the number of power-conversion stages.

SATEC offers a dedicated platform for accurate monitoring and metering across a wide range of DC applications.

The PRO series

Using Hall-effect sensors, SATEC has adapted the PRO series for direct current metering. This brings the series’ high-accuracy measurement, advanced data logging, and communication capabilities to a wide range of DC applications.

Key capabilities include:

  • Measurement of up to four DC current circuits with a single device
  • Support for IEC 61850
  • Built-in Ethernet interface

SATEC also offers accessories for powering the sensors and extending the supported DC voltage range. Together, these components provide an accurate and flexible solution for DC metering.

The PM130

Using shunt resistors, the PM130 provides a cost-effective DC metering solution for retrofit applications where shunts are already installed. This configuration is commonly used in telecommunications facilities.

DC metering is the measurement of energy in direct-current circuits, such as solar strings, batteries, EV chargers and telecom systems. It is used where standard alternating-current meters cannot be applied.

AC meters measure alternating current, which has voltage, current, frequency and phase angle. DC circuits have none of those beyond voltage and current, so DC metering uses different sensing — SATEC measures DC current with UHACS to achieve accurate readings.

Yes. DC metering monitors the DC side of a PV system, at string or inverter level, to track production, performance and yield.

Typical applications include solar PV, EV charging, telecom (-48 V systems), battery and BESS energy storage, and DC data-center architectures.

SATEC has adapted the PRO series for DC metering using UHACS, measuring up to three DC current circuits with a single device, with IEC 61850 support and a built-in Ethernet interface.

IEC 62053-41:2021 applies to static watt-hour meters for the measurement of DC electrical energy in DC systems, in accuracy classes 0.5 and 1.
